For some time now the Beauty Programmes offered in Ballymun Youthreach have been a very popular choice for both internal students and those coming from outside the centre. The programmes available are an ideal stepping stone for those who wish to pursue a career within the Beauty Industry. We offer excellent opportunities in training to the highest standard for QQI Level 5 exams in both Cosmetic Studies and Make-Up Application.

Minimum entry requirements for the Beauty Course include a successful Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied or full FETAC Level 4. Students must be aged between sixteen and twenty years of age and all entry is subject to interview.

The Beauty Course educates students in both the theoretical and practical side of work. The theoretical side of the programmes offer students a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, providing an in-depth knowledge of the main structures and functions of the human body, in addition to various areas such as customer care, business, professionalism and hygiene.

The practical side of the courses are ingrained in areas such as facials, make-up application, manicures, tinting and more. We enthusiastically promote in-house training in areas such as Swedish Massage, Spray Tan Application and Waxing. Gel or Acrylic accredited courses are also an option offered by professional companies on site.

Work placement in the industry is also an integral part of the year. This commences following completion of FETAC exams. Also a strong emphasis is placed on group projects and a fine example of this is the continuous success we have in the yearly Style-It Competition. On occasion we invite guest speakers in the industry to deliver an insight into the ever changing world of beauty.

If this is something that interests you please call in today for an application form and a chat or phone us on 01 842 0482. Places fill up fast. Interviews will take place early June.

Show Racism the Red Card

On Wednesday 11th May, three students; Ciara Murphy, Scott Crosbie, Ellen Mc Donagh, and their teacher Louise Loughlin attended the AIVA stadium where over 600 hundred young people from youth groups, Youthreachs, and primary and secondary schools from all over the country attended the annual creative competition awards ceremony.  The competition called on young people to develop creative messages about racism and integration using written, visual and audiovisual means. Prizes were awarded for entries ranging from songs and raps to posters, videos, and social media campaigns.

Ballymun Youthreach had success with their entry and were presented with an award of Special Commendation.  The students created a 3D Globe titled ‘Mapping Diversity’ to represent a celebration of a multicultural society.

The ceremony was MCed by sports presenter Tommy Martin.  Special guests included Steve Guppy, coach to the Irish football team, Cllr. Cieran Perry, Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin, John Boyle, Vice-President of INTO and Razan Ibraheem, a Syrian journalist based in Ireland.

All entries to the competition can be viewed on www.youtube.com/theredcardire
